Looks like we are going to have another woodpecker family in our backyard. Actually this is in our neighbors backyard but close enough that I can see it from the chicken pen.

I just learned yesterday that this is the female Red Bellied Woodpecker. The male has been here for a couple of years – but rarely do I see the female. She popped in yesterday and had me curious since she looks “bald” compared to the male! They’re magnificent!
Leanne, Thanks for the information. At one point during that day I had the male and female on the tree but did not get a photo of it.
Monarch, I had a couple raise some babies in a tree in our backyard last year. It is amazing watching them take care of the young.
